    I recently arranged and inspected the necessary Landscape implementation of approximately 1700 trees and 1,500,000 shrubs in the New Territories of Hong Kong, including Sai Kung, Sha Tin and TKO. The Project, arranged by the Hong Kong Government (HKSAR CEDD) was designed by ACLA-Hyder JV, in which I was involved in both design and documentation.

    Seconded as SRSS from Earthasia in Hong Kong to Melco in Macau, I worked on the Studio City G/F and 35,000sq.m podium deck featuring swimming pools, lazy river, sculptures, architectural lighting, water features, outdoor nightclub, multi-function gardens, timber decks and terraces. The project included extensive architectural theming (GFRC rockwork, faux timber finishes, cladding etc.), mass planting of high quality trees and shrubs from an exclusive nursery, factory inspections, top soil batching inspections, and comments on numerous Contractors drawings and material submissions.

    I worked with ACLA since 2005 as a Senior Landscape Architect and was then promoted to Associate in 2006. I worked predominantly on PRC projects including the award winning World Financial Centre in Beijing, and many prestigious residential developments and hotels Prominent schemes on which I worked included the following:

    • The Praia Residential Development, Macau
    • Victoria Harbour Residential Development, Shenzhen, PRC

    I was also involved in tourism studies for the Government of Morocco.

    I transferred to The Venetian Macau in 2008 to work as a Senior Project Manager for theming and landscape design for ongoing development.

    I was invited back to ACLA as a Principal Landscape Architect to work on the Design, Development and Construction of the Greening Master Plans for the Urban Areas of Hong Kong which culminated in 2 years on-site experience implementing the works in Kowloon City, Sham Shiu Po, Kwun Tong and Wong Tai Sing.

    For this role I became a Certified Arborist and gained considerable knowledge in sub-tropical planting design.

    Thereafter I led the team for design and documentation of hard and soft landscape works for the upcoming Greening Master Plans for Yuen Long, Tuen Mun, and Tin Shui Wai. Aside from writing the award winning Brief and thereafter the Inception Report, my role included detailed site appraisals, public consultations and presentations and liaison with numerous Government Departments. The designs are now approved and under implementation.

    As Senior Project Manager for the Venetian Macau, I was involved in Theming and Landscape Design for Hotels and the Shopping Malls on the prestigious Cotai Strip, with a focus on the Sheraton Cascading River Mall and Paradise Gardens.

    I worked in this position as the Senior Resident Landscape Architect for the Hong Kong Disneyland Infrastructure. This included the Water Recreation Centre, Boat Centre, Arboretum, Entry Gateway, Road and Pedestrian Signage, Lighting, Pedestrian Subway, Approach Roads, Footpaths and Utilities. I headed up a team of several staff and was responsible for overseeing the landscape hardworks of the project and ensuring all elements were delivered on time and on budget.

    Having previously worked with Urbis in 1998-2000, I was invited back to prepare the 'Enhancement of Hong Kong Highways Department Details Manual'. This included streetscape design and calming, pedestrianisation and rationalisation of street signage including installing updated street name plates with numbers, pedestrian railings, paving, street furniture and associated urban design elements in Hong Kong.

    Here I supervised tourism studies for Hong Kong & China. This included masterplanning for new town development. Projects included enhancement of Stanley as tourist destination, South Lamma for eco-tourism and The Central Reclamation Phase 3 (CR3).

    I specialised in Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments in accordance with the guidelines of the Hong Kong Environmental Impact Assessment Ordinance (EIAO). These included alternative sites for the Cheung Kwan O Landfill, The Central Reclamation Phase 3, the Route 7 road link between Kennedy Town and Aberdeen and various large-scale coastal reclamation housing developments including Sok Kwu Wan in Lamma Island and Belchers Bay in Kennedy Town.

    Here I worked on the Grand Horizon Residential Development alongside the Rambler Channel at Tsing Yi Island. I designed the hard and soft landscape works including water features, lighting, paving, feature walls and pavilions. The project also included the design of an adjacent promenade and childrens playground.

    I worked on the team for the White Rose Development in Leeds. The project was the rehabilitation of a previously contaminated brownfield site. This included design of the Hardworks and Softworks including pedestrian and street lighting, car parks with several hundred semi-mature trees, natural stone clad retaining walls, an artificial lake and the associated cantilevered boardwalks. I also worked on the Lisbon Expo '98 in Portugal. My focus was the Vasco de Gama Centre. Additionally I was involved in Landscape Surveys for the Ministry of Defence throughout Germany as part of the British withdrawal.

    This was my first position after graduation. I worked on the rehabilitation of several ex-colliery mining sites on the River Weir in Sunderland including The Monk Weirmouth Colliery. We utilised landscape mitigation measures and design to implement natural features including woodland and scenic waterfront footpaths. I was also involved in the planting design for the approach roads and hotel courtyards for Disneyland, Paris.
